Expresso: the express highway of Mobile Internet
I have been saying that the most useless advert on TV is the Expresso one. The issue is that after watching the full length of the advert, one does not know what it is about. The advert purports to say that Kasapa is now Expresso but it does not show that anywhere in the video. Very poor!!! It took some time before we heard that Kasapa is now history. That poor commercial affected the way people warmed into the new network including me.
Last week my sister convinced me to try the Internet from Expresso instead of MTN whose modems have just vanished from the market. My sister even gave me money to purchase the dongle. I must confess that I didn't rate it that much because of my experience with Vodafone. I was thinking it wasn't going to be 3G so the speed would be poor. Wrong...!!!!!
Expresso does not run on 3G yes but it runs on CDMA which I have just learnt can produce some very fast connection speeds.
I was worried about network coverage because in Takoradi, my house is in a new settlement where even Mobile Giants like MTN have a very poor presence there. That worry turned out to be an empty one. The Expresso Internet also known as CLIQ works in my area like a possessed animal. Wheew...!!!
This performance puts it on the top of my list of mobile Internet service in Ghana. The data exchange rates is a lot better than MTN. Expresso charges GHȻ2 for 100MB against MTN's GHȻ3 for the same amount of data. This means that when they increase the coverage, there will be an influx of customers from other networks. The good thing for Expresso is that because it's CDMA and they are the only operators in the country people will not go about unlocking the modem so that they can use it on other networks. It looks they like are not completely organised like the others so by general extension when they get their act together customers are going benefit a lot.
In conclusion I would say this is a good development for customers. The other network operators will sit up and not take us for granted.
